As Warm as an Arctic Wind

Prime Minister Augustine Kendry stood in front of the window, her hands clasped behind her back. She stared out at the street below and smiled a warm smile, like a mother watching over a sleeping child.

If they only knew what they cannot truly see and feel.

She heard the side door to her office open but did not turn to see who entered. There was only a select few who knew of the secret passage to begin with.

"You are punctual," she said, still looking out the window.

"Well, when you've been summoned by a world leader one must see fit to attend," he replied.

"Let us cut to the chase on this one. Time, I think, is of the essence here," the Prime Minister said. She turned to face her guest. "There is something sinister in the works, and I need your team to do something about it."

"You know we aren't your dirty tricks squad," he replied.

"I know," she said with a slight smile, a hint of a real smile hidden in it somewhere. She reached for a envelope on the table and handed it to him.

"There's something going on in the northern regions, near Big Lake. A team of RCMP were sent in two days ago and nothing has been heard from them."

Max opened up the folder and began to scan the report, along with a few pictures. Max scrutinized one photo.

"I thought that would get your attention," she told him.
