Just Like Rocky

Mags fell to the floor like a discarded doll. She was still conscious and she could hear their voices sounding as if they were speaking to her from a distance.

"She ain't going to talk," one man said.

"She better," the other replied. "She knows where the next shift will occur. I ain't going to be waiting for who knows how long for the next one."

"Well if we don't get the location from her we are as good as stuck," the first man said.

She felt another boot to the ribs.

A Moments Peace...

Ruby, Ruby Tuesday...

He could hear the faint lyrics coming from Suki's headphones. Apparently she was on a Stones kick since it was the fourth song in a row that she was playing.

Max was sitting there reading Prophecy Girl by Ksen Daniels and he glanced from up from a passage and stared into the darkness. He could see Suki in the reflection, she was mouthing the words to the song. His eyes wandered over to where Aki was sitting in a lotus position on the floor at the far end, apparently in meditation.

He placed a bookmark into the book and closed it for now, and he fished out a smoke. He lit it and let the smoke drift away, he was looking at the shapes that were forming in the swirl.

"Oh really now," he muttered aloud after seeing one particularly nasty image in the cloud.

The Theater Goer...

"Thanks Susan," Max said as he placed money on the counter.

"Anytime Max," she replied. She flashed him a smile and Max shot back a wink in a grandfatherly sort of way.

After purchasing a popcorn and a soda he headed into the theater. It was early in the day and the theater wasn't as jammed packed, so he could watch a movie in relative peace and quiet. To immerse himself in the world of the cinema.

He moved across the floor to theater 13. He didn't know why he had to frequent this one and no matter what movie happened to be playing, he just hand the urge for the past twenty years to visit here.

He really didn't know why he constantly did this.

A Morning Concerto

Maggie rolled out of bed and stood in the morning light; she stretched and took a quick glance at the window to see what kind of day it would be like.

The Sun hadn't peaked over the horizon and there seemed to be a clear sky.

She thought she was going to have a Mary Poppins moment when she noticed a robin sitting on the branch outside her window. Though before a song could escape her lips the bird took flight.

She exited her bedroom and onto a subway platform.

"Oh boy," she muttered to herself. She could hear the train approaching and she was standing in a nightshirt.

"Must be a major shift about to happen."

The train approached and stopped and Maggie got onto the last car.

"No time to explain," Bishop told her. "Just have to make sure that I get to Max in time."

Faux Blog

(nerdychick's blog from BloggittyBlogBlogs)

It was raining, pouring as if a waterfall had just appeared above me. Since I had several blocks to go, I decided to take the subway. Though the platform was crowded, I guess tons of other people had the same thought as I did.
The subway rolled in and everyone began to push in shove inside the cars, and I was being jostled around like a doll. I saw that the last car was practically empty and I made a beeline for it. At least I had a seat waiting for me.

I found a seat in a car and proceeded to bury my face in a book. At 42d St. there was another huge group of people waiting on the platform but none of them had made their way to the last car. I glanced around the car and noticed a very angelic woman who was sitting at the far end listening to an ipod. Across from here was a spikey-haired fellow on a cellphone, he seemed to be chatting in some foreign nerd speak.

Just before the doors closed. A girl in a cowboy hat and huge gloves stepped in. She noticed me and flashed me a smile.

"You new here?" she asked.

I looked around and noticed she was speaking to me.

"Oh yes," I said politely. I didn't feel like getting punched out for being rude.

"I'm Aqua," she told me as she sat next to me. She was chewing gum and that's when I noticed that her gloves (at the fists) were stained dark brown. So she has seen too many Street Fighter cartoons I gathered, I wondered if she was sizing me up.

"I'm Memphis," I lied.

Aqua went on this rant about demonic beasts and cyborg robots that she must of escaped from the mental ward. Man, she described every scene in gory detail, that it made me wonder and to see the crack of a smile as she told it made me wonder more.

"Aqua, let Memphis be," the spikey haired fellow called over. "She's got a lot on her plate at the moment and she doesn't need to be bugged."

"Sure Max," Aqua replied. She got up and moved on to the back of the car.

I was in shock since "Max" couldn't of known my name was Memphis since I just made it up on the spot. Maybe he just read my lips, but that couldn't be since I wasn't facing him.

Before I knew it he was right behind me. Must of snuck up fast like a cobra and he said. "I know your stop is up next, Memphis" he handed me a cellphone. "If you ever in trouble hit *333."

I hadn't had a chance to reply when he got up and moved on to the back, and the car was slowing down. I dropped the cellphone into my bag, I don't know why I just didn't leave it behind for all I know it has some sort of tracking device on it.

When I got home I put the cellphone on my desk and looked at it. I really don't know what to make out of it. Though, I tried to use it to make a regular phone call, it works... and the kicker of it all is that it's free. Wow.

I hope I don't have to dail that number he told me.

A Dimensional Rip

"Yo Maxy," Goner said as he slid into the booth. "Wassup?"

Max sipped his coffee and closed the book he was reading. "Nothing at all."

"Homework eh?" Goner asked. "Give the books a break man. Schools done for the day."

Max couldn't help but smile.

"You going to the flat rock this evening?" Goner questioned. "The whole school's gonna be there. Including that mega-babe Maggie. I think she digs you."

Max shook his head and chuckled; it's been a hell of a long time since he was in high school. And the old memories were flooding back like a broken dam.

He glanced at himself in the mirror. Short hair, wearing a t-shirt declaring himself to be a GALACTIC TERROR. No stubble, no scars.

"Goner. Max." Frank acknowledged as he butted Goner over. Frank placed his books on the table. Which made Max chuckle even more... he couldn't imagine being the same age as Frank in the first place.
