The Director's Version...

Max pulled the trigger. He felt the gun vibrate in his hand and the bullet spat forth in a wake of bullet time, leaving a trail for those to follow. It seemed like he was falling into forever, his body still gliding across the sky as he pulled the trigger a second time.

It was like a scene in a summer blockbuster where it's all style and the story takes a back seat. He hoped whoever was playing him in the movie was cool looking.

He could see the scene like a movie, and his peripheral vision was catching the camera crew off to one side. He was wondering at the moment during battle who was calling the shots on this one, and whether this story they were working on was going according to plan.
