Mags fell to the floor like a discarded doll. She was still conscious and she could hear their voices sounding as if they were speaking to her from a distance. "She ain't going to talk," one man said. "She better," the other replied. "She knows where the next shift will occur. I ain't going to be waiting for who knows how long for the next one." "Well if we don't get the location from her we are as good as stuck," the first man said. She felt another boot to the ribs.
Ruby, Ruby Tuesday... He could hear the faint lyrics coming from Suki's headphones. Apparently she was on a Stones kick since it was the fourth song in a row that she was playing. Max was sitting there reading Prophecy Girl by Ksen Daniels and he glanced from up from a passage and stared into the darkness. He could see Suki in the reflection, she was mouthing the words to the song. His eyes wandered over to where Aki was sitting in a lotus position on the floor at the far end, apparently in meditation. He placed a bookmark into the book and closed it for now, and he fished out a smoke. He lit it and let the smoke drift away, he was looking at the shapes that were forming in the swirl. "Oh really now," he muttered aloud after seeing one particularly nasty image in the cloud.
"Thanks Susan," Max said as he placed money on the counter. "Anytime Max," she replied. She flashed him a smile and Max shot back a wink in a grandfatherly sort of way. After purchasing a popcorn and a soda he headed into the theater. It was early in the day and the theater wasn't as jammed packed, so he could watch a movie in relative peace and quiet. To immerse himself in the world of the cinema. He moved across the floor to theater 13. He didn't know why he had to frequent this one and no matter what movie happened to be playing, he just hand the urge for the past twenty years to visit here. He really didn't know why he constantly did this.
Maggie rolled out of bed and stood in the morning light; she stretched and took a quick glance at the window to see what kind of day it would be like. The Sun hadn't peaked over the horizon and there seemed to be a clear sky. She thought she was going to have a Mary Poppins moment when she noticed a robin sitting on the branch outside her window. Though before a song could escape her lips the bird took flight. She exited her bedroom and onto a subway platform. "Oh boy," she muttered to herself. She could hear the train approaching and she was standing in a nightshirt. "Must be a major shift about to happen." The train approached and stopped and Maggie got onto the last car. "No time to explain," Bishop told her. "Just have to make sure that I get to Max in time."
(nerdychick's blog from BloggittyBlogBlogs) It was raining, pouring as if a waterfall had just appeared above me. Since I had several blocks to go, I decided to take the subway. Though the platform was crowded, I guess tons of other people had the same thought as I did. The subway rolled in and everyone began to push in shove inside the cars, and I was being jostled around like a doll. I saw that the last car was practically empty and I made a beeline for it. At least I had a seat waiting for me. I found a seat in a car and proceeded to bury my face in a book. At 42d St. there was another huge group of people waiting on the platform but none of them had made their way to the last car. I glanced around the car and noticed a very angelic woman who was sitting at the far end listening to an ipod. Across from here was a spikey-haired fellow on a cellphone, he seemed to be chatting in some foreign nerd speak. Just before the doors closed. A girl in a cowboy hat and huge gloves stepped in. She noticed me and flashed me a smile. "You new here?" she asked. I looked around and noticed she was speaking to me. "Oh yes," I said politely. I didn't feel like getting punched out for being rude. "I'm Aqua," she told me as she sat next to me. She was chewing gum and that's when I noticed that her gloves (at the fists) were stained dark brown. So she has seen too many Street Fighter cartoons I gathered, I wondered if she was sizing me up. "I'm Memphis," I lied. Aqua went on this rant about demonic beasts and cyborg robots that she must of escaped from the mental ward. Man, she described every scene in gory detail, that it made me wonder and to see the crack of a smile as she told it made me wonder more. "Aqua, let Memphis be," the spikey haired fellow called over. "She's got a lot on her plate at the moment and she doesn't need to be bugged." "Sure Max," Aqua replied. She got up and moved on to the back of the car. I was in shock since "Max" couldn't of known my name was Memphis since I just made it up on the spot. Maybe he just read my lips, but that couldn't be since I wasn't facing him. Before I knew it he was right behind me. Must of snuck up fast like a cobra and he said. "I know your stop is up next, Memphis" he handed me a cellphone. "If you ever in trouble hit *333." I hadn't had a chance to reply when he got up and moved on to the back, and the car was slowing down. I dropped the cellphone into my bag, I don't know why I just didn't leave it behind for all I know it has some sort of tracking device on it. When I got home I put the cellphone on my desk and looked at it. I really don't know what to make out of it. Though, I tried to use it to make a regular phone call, it works... and the kicker of it all is that it's free. Wow. I hope I don't have to dail that number he told me.
"Yo Maxy," Goner said as he slid into the booth. "Wassup?" Max sipped his coffee and closed the book he was reading. "Nothing at all." "Homework eh?" Goner asked. "Give the books a break man. Schools done for the day." Max couldn't help but smile. "You going to the flat rock this evening?" Goner questioned. "The whole school's gonna be there. Including that mega-babe Maggie. I think she digs you." Max shook his head and chuckled; it's been a hell of a long time since he was in high school. And the old memories were flooding back like a broken dam. He glanced at himself in the mirror. Short hair, wearing a t-shirt declaring himself to be a GALACTIC TERROR. No stubble, no scars. "Goner. Max." Frank acknowledged as he butted Goner over. Frank placed his books on the table. Which made Max chuckle even more... he couldn't imagine being the same age as Frank in the first place.
Max stepped out of the car and left the door open; he left the car running and the music playing. At the moment his main goal was the coffee shop before him; he didn't mind that once he stepped inside the building two teens hopped into his car and peeled away. "Jerks," he muttered.
Max snapped his fingers and the car stopped on a dime. Throwing both of its passengers into the dashboard. The doors opened and it seemed that the two would be car-jackers were vomited out onto the ground. Max didn't look at what was happening outside, as several customers had craned to see what the fuss was about and left their place in line to see. Max stepped up to the counter with exact change in his hands and told the waitress, "I will have a large double-double please."
Mags lay in the beach chair, decked out in a black two piece and oil covering her body. Glistening like dew on grass in the morning. The sound of waves lapping up on the beach was relaxing and calm. "Heaven on earth," Max said as he placed his Corona on the table and grabbed the chair next to Mags. "Not quite," Mag replied. "But it's getting there." "Well, it's too bad this can't last," Max replied. "You're joking right?" Mags asked; she cocked an eye open to catch Max's face. "You'd miss it big time." Max reached over and grabbed his beer and took a sip and gave Maggie a wink.
Crunk The sound of a heavy metal foot on cement. Crunk Another sound making the earth tremble a bit. This time a whirring sound. Chunka-clunk Max dared not let out a breath. His fingers coiled around the trigger, ready to get into action. But, now wasn't the time. He knew that what he was up against was way out of his league, but he would face it if the task came to that. Crunk Closer but still unsure. Bricks fall close by . Cha- Crunk! Another step close. Too close. Max prepared for the battle; he kissed the tips of his guns and closed his eyes for a fraction of a second. Sweat dripped from his forehead, and he didn't dare wipe it.
INT. GOOD TOMES, GOOD TOMES - DAY MAX, FRANK, PRETTY GEORGE and SUKI are sitting at a table by the window. MAX is sipping on a coffee and wearing a t-shirt that has a picture of the Queen whose skin is open to reveal that she is a lizard. FRANK is dressed to the nines in a black jacket and tie with a pink dress shirt. PRETTY GEORGE is sitting at the end of the table, and SUKI is playing with a yo-yo not really paying attention to the fellows. There is a strange weird item sitting on the table. Frank is peering at it but afraid to touch it. FRANK ... what is it? PRETTY Don't know as of yet. But it sure is funky looking. FRANK Is it safe? PRETTY I am not sure what the hell it is. So it's hard for me to classify it. FRANK You're insane. PRETTY Well, in my business you have to take some risks. When something like this falls into your lap you have to take the good with the bad. FRANK (turns to Max) And you trust this man? MAX He has my back. FRANK That's all I need to know.
Maggie lifted a napkin to the corner of her eyes. She was crying. And her eyes showed that she had been crying for a long while at that. She dabbed lightly so that the tears were absorbed into the material. She didn't know why this came over her. But she was crying like she never cried before. It was a pain she had sworn that it would never overcome her again. And, here it was.
INT. PIERRE ELLIOT TRUDEAU HIGHSCHOOL - DAY MAX and ANGST are sitting on a bench in the atrium, sitting by a tree. MAX has a styrofoam coffee in his hands. FRANK is leaning back on the wall with one leg propped up as well, he is also drinking coffee. It is 10:45am. There are just a few other students about. FRANK Why is it that we can remember things in shifts and other shifts we forget? MAX The power of the plureality. FRANK But what does this have to do with us in the first place? MAX Maybe all. Maybe nothing at all. I think we are being tested on what we are doing and how good we can do it. Just like pawns on the great chess board. FRANK Man that sucks. Like now is one of those times that I wish I really didn't know who I am. ANGST Awwww poor Franky hates being in high school. MAX Just go with the flow my good friend. After we do what we have to do here who knows what the next shift has install for us. FRANK Sounds like I am a fucking character in a fucking roleplaying game. (Angst rolls her eyes back) MAX Wouldn't that be a pisser huh? (he shoots Angst a wink)
Max opened fire. Pulling the triggers on both guns, sending his answer
back. His message he hoped was received at the other end of his reply.
He
ducked behind the rock and waited for their graceful reply. In which it
was pretty plentiful, that he was glad to be hiding behind a rock that
would take many more rounds to chip away.
"Way to go, Sundance," Frank said to Max with a hit of sour added for flavour.
"Well," Max said matter-of-factly, "They didn't want to listen to reason."
"I think your version of reason differs from theirs," Frank said.
