Trump, the mysterious talking cat that occasionally accompanies Max on his adventures, watched the news and sighed.
"If this keep up I'm gonna have to start using a code name," the cat meowed.

The Stars Aligned
Derek Moore sat on the car looking up at the stars; his father, Andrew, leaned against it making sure that Derek didn't move too far on the hood. It was dusk and the evening was claiming the sky, fading away the blanket of blue and revealing the stars slowly but surely.
"I think I see Max," Derek said as he looked up to see a group of stars clustered like a man flying through the air in some gun-fu maneuvers. "And Maggie is right next to him."
Andrew's eyes looked to the heavens and saw that Max and Maggie were there in the clear evening sky, his eyes taking in the constellations of the cat, Trump, and the bird, Crow, as well.
"It's beautiful sight," Andrew said.
"That it is, Dad," Derek said. He loved the nights he spent with his dad since it meant sitting out under the stars and looking at the constellations.
"Look, there's Aqua," Andrew pointed. "Looks like she has her friend with her as well."

C2IP Update.2
The ground shook again, dislodging more rubble from the bombed-out buildings. Shadows swept across the ground from the light of the flares in the night sky, voices hollow and fuzzy with static calling out over malfunctioning sound-systems, repeating emergency protocol directions that were very 'too-little-too-late'. Mick strolled down the centre of the cracked and scorched street as if all the lights and noise were a massive party; this wasn't his first apocalypse. In a lot of ways he felt at home in disaster zones; they were somehow more honest.
His contacts were less brazen, with good reason Mick figured, given that of the ever-increasing number of factions in what appeared to be a cold-war-turned-hot-turning-nova most likely had capture or kill orders out on them. They signalled to him with a pre-arranged series of flashlight blinks from the shadows of a ruined hotel lobby.
"Okay," Mick said, hunkered down behind the front desk. "First off, no I haven't gotten any leads on who the double-agent is. I don't doubt your intel, especially given the source, but there are so many variables in play right now...
"Second, Goner's rejoined Max, Frank and Angst, so they're active again as a cell. Plus they've gotten a lead on Mags - sounds like she's changed too.
"As for Suki, it looks like she's actually shifted along the Chronoplex - that's what we're calling it now, right? She seems to be in a much older version of herself. I know, it's not the first-time Suki's age has altered. No idea if or how she's going to intersect with the others.
"The Diner crew... Things are still different with them too... Like they're on a different frequency from the other Dragons? I dunno, I feel like something's brewing there.
"Max has got his spirit guides in play, the bird and the talking cat. Still nothing from Aqua. Oh, but get this - I found this weird urban legend about this strange warrior-monk type-guy who wanders the globe, actually walking, no planes or buses. He's this dirty bearded vagabond, stops briefly to debate about things like Confucianism or Norse Mythology. Sometimes does a bit of intervening on a street-level if there's some injustice happening, and ain't there always? There's versions of the tale where he seeks out a vision at holy places, the hidden Temple of the Sky on Everest, the sacred glass monolith at the centre of the Sahara Desert, the keystone of the Great Wall of China that contains the last essence of the demon Hrarchuta who sacrificed his immortality to save his love, the angelic Yuriti... It's great stuff; I wish I'd written it. But it's got to be our boy Akimoto, right?
"And lastly, just so I'm keeping track, so far there's the Chronoplex, the Paraplex, and the Ultraplex? Now, how about you share with me: do we know yet what exactly has kicked off this whole mess between the System and Counter-System?"
The contacts exchanged glances.
Suddenly a swarm of sirens began wailing outside and the thunder of helicopters erupted overhead. Mick sighed. "I get it, 'to be continued'."

New Europeans
In a quiet street washed by the rain, the room within the home.
Max sat at the table, his fingers drumming along with the song that was playing from an old battered radio that looked like it had seen better days. There was a chessboard set up with pieces in various locations and he studied their arrangement.
A lonely man sits cheek to cheek, with unique designs in chrome.
He was trying to remember the name of the band that played the song. It was a band that was big in the UK in the 80's but not so much in North America. The lyrics made sense to him now; he hadn't quite understood them back then.
The mellow years have long gone by, but now he sits alone.
"Yes," he answered.
"Yes," Trump replied. "Your move, chum. Depending on what you move I will have you in checkmate in less than five!"

"Was I alive in the 80's?" he muttered.
"I don't know," Trump replied. "Were you?"
The mellow years have long gone by, but now he sits alone.
"Yes," he answered.

"You wish," Max said as his attention went back to the chessboard. He moved his hand to the Queen, which was shaped like an angel with two katanas held in her hands.
"You sure you wanna use her?" Trump questioned.
He has a brand new radio, but never turns it on.
Max moved his Queen across the board where it took out Trump's Bishop.

BEDMAS
"Well, space usually has three dimensions. And we tend to move about within them relatively easily. Time has seven more dimensions, three of which we are usually travelling through without really noticing. And the other four require specialized technology. Psychic or mechanical, of course," Crow said.
"Okay, so that's ten dimensions so far..." Trump said.
"Right, plus the micro-dimension of biology, the hyper-dimension of neurology, the macro-dimension of planetary awareness, the mega-dimension of galactic awareness, and the ultra-dimension of cosmic consciousness."
"Fifteen."
"Multiplied by the 333 dimensions of mythic experience, and multiplied again by the 777 parallel universes, all to the power of 999 - the exponential number of interfaces that are commonly referred to as 'imagination'..."
"Um, I think I need to grab a calculator..."
"Don't bother, the exact number isn't necessarily relevant. Although the Professor would, of course, argue otherwise. And I don't pretend to know what kind of math his Plexotron operates on, only that what he thinks is his great invention is in fact a manifestation of the archetypal Initiation Chamber."
"Ah, that's interesting," Trump purred.
"Not to stray from the point, however. Which is that due to his XXXXXXXXXXXXX Max has the ability to travel through space, time, the body, the mind, the planet, the galaxy, the cosmos, mythology, parallel realities, media, dreams, and art."
"Which, in turn, might explain why he seems so confused a lot of the time."
"And keep in mind that this very description of Max as an Omni-dimensional Traveller is only one version of plureality."
Trump pawed at his whiskers. "You know what? I'm sorry I asked."
"Actually, I have a chart here somewhere that-" Crow continued.
"I need a nap."

Invocation 1
Trump pawed at the touch-screen on the cell. Making calls had gotten way easier for him with the change in technology; it was pretty tricky for him back when phones were still rotary.
"Coordinates Wheel-Judgement-Temperance," the voice answered.
"Hiya Professor," Trump purred.
"Oh hello there! Thank you for checking in. How is everything proceeding?"
"Maggie's still trapped, Max is still sick. Everyone else is laying low, sticking to their cover stories."
"Hm, I see. Updates please..."
"Suki is working in a pizza shop, Wraith is working at a movie theater, Darius is selling men's clothing, Callan is building furniture in a factory, Frank is doing market research, Goner is delivering pizzas - from a different shop than Suki's, Angst is washing windows, Aqua is working for a cleaning company and Dexter is harvesting wheat samples for an agricultural study."
The sound of typing on a keyboard. "And what about Akimoto?"
"He's here... I don't remember meeting him before. He seems quite strange."
"Imagine a collage of The 13th Warrior, The Last Samurai, Star Wars and The Terminator."
"Professor, I rarely get out to the movies and when Max downloads them I often fall asleep in his lap."
"Yes, of course. Well, the story is a rather muddled mix of a viking on a vision quest, training by ancient Japanese warriors, clothes inspired by the same plus an army surplus store and tropical tourists, a strange connection with version Citadel - if you recall that tale - a mysterious scar, a sprinkle of amnesia, and a dash of time travel. He's generally a lost soul, enjoys a mug of ale, and is relatively unfamiliar with modern technology. He also writes poetry."
"I can see why Max gets along with him so well."
"And how is he occupying his time while we wait for the window?"
Trump studied the movements of the large man on the rooftop of the brownstone, clear in the light of the full moon. "I believe, Professor, that he is attempting to cast a spell."

Defrag: Relax, Don't Do It
Previously...
Her cell rang. Lorde ringtone, Baby be the class clown, I'll be the beauty queen in tears.
“Hello? Oh, hiya... Not too bad, how about you?... Actually, well... To be honest, maybe not so good... No, I know, I'm not judging it... I think I was just having an episode... Yeah, fighting demons, it felt like hours but I'm pretty sure I just got home about twenty minutes ago... And the cat, he was here... Yeah, the talking cat... Jesus, I'm shaking now... I'm pretty sure it's over, unless I'm hallucinating this phone call... haha... No, I'm glad you called... No, I'm going to keep going, if this is what it's like for Max then I want to know... Holy, I just had major deja vu!... Ok, listen, I'm going to have a shower... Yeah, I'm safe... I will... Or you call me back if you don't hear from me by ten... Great, thanks again... Bye.”
Maggie looked down to see if there was a cat at her feet...

v.Cyber Trump
Although Pretty would likely never admit it, the one Meta he knows who could out-charm him would be Trump. Black-belt level social-engineering, enhanced by an Aphrodite Cortex that regulates pheromone output and manages subliminal physiological responses, in addition to running Lunar and Medallion perception mods. He also has a solid stealth game due to a custom genetic augment using hybridized cat cells. For negotiations, interrogations or infiltrations, Trump is worth his price.

v.GB Francine
Two young hackers known by the handles 'The Professor' and 'Trump' were able to create a cloaked backdoor channel into Omega Station 6, the site of a secret cloning program. Over the course of three years, they slowly and delicately tinkered with the system and were able to re-program one of the clones. They left the combat and tactical coding intact but altered the motivation from obedience to rebellion. When the techs at the Station activated the clone she broke loose and escaped. Some time after, Mackenzie Cube located the clone and began guiding her in her new life as a renegade. The clone eventually chose the name Francine.

Trio of Death
Trump waited outside the door to the building. He was sitting there
waiting; soon as the door opened he would see who was coming out.
It had been awhile since somebody stepped through the door, and he was getting a tad impatient. It wasn't like he had anything else better to do today.
He heard the splash of footsteps coming down the alley. He glanced up and saw three teenaged girls running, giggling as they did so.
He just sat there licking his paws and did a double-take as the girls slowed down and began to draw weapons. He stopped what he was doing and looked over the girls once again.
They all had stopped by the door and were positioning themselves for an ambush of sorts.
It's times like these I wish I had a cellphone, Trump thought.

Relax, Don't Do It
Maggie sat down on the chair. It was a strange sensation, to be sitting
instead of involved in something that was War-related. She sat with the
comfort of knowing that she wouldn't be getting up for the next little
while.
"Enjoying it?" Trump asked her. He rubbed against her leg like a cat should.
"Oh yes," she replied with the innocence of a little girl. "It's amazing to be doing something like this."
"I guess after fighting hordes of demons for hours upon hours that a simple pleasure of just sitting would be more relaxing than a warm bath," Trump said.

Another Legacy...
Max's cellphone vibrated. He walked down the hall and then ducked into a
room. He flicked the cellphone up like Captain Kirk on an away mission
answering a call.
"Yo!"
"Do what you are going to do man."
"Why?" Max asked. "Where the hell are you?"
"I boogied," Dan replied. "There's three LEGACY teams here."
Max swore.
"You're on your own on this one," Dan replied. "LEGACY scares the hell out of me."
"I'll meet you at Lucky Wong's later," Max told Dan.
Max flipped the phone off and checked his guns. He counted 3 clips. He was going to have to make sure that every bullet counted. He did a quick glance out the window and made a count; there were three sedans and a black van in the lot below. He could see Dan in the building across the street. Dan signaled him and then disappeared.
"Well, let's see what we can do," Dan said to no one in particular.
"Well, I hope you can do a whole lot of shooting," a voice replied from the shadows. Max saw Trump sitting on the ledge.
"What the hell are you doing here?" Dan asked.
"I was about to ask you the same thing." Trump shot back. "Mags will kill me if something drastic happened to you."

} Aces Up - For R.T.
"Go to black" Max said. He ejected the clips from his handguns and was in the process of slapping new ones in. He turned to Maggie and asked, "How you doing?"
Maggie looked up and gave him a wink; she was dressing a wound to her leg. It seemed like she was in a world of pain but she didn't show it. There was a make-shift tourniquet on her leg.
"We don't have much time left," Max replied. "They will be arriving in full force in a little while. You think you are able to make the run?"
"Yeah," Maggie replied as she was fighting to stand. Max held out a hand to make sure that she was steady enough. They looked into each others eyes and a smile came to their lips.
Trump jumped down from a pile of boxes. "They are coming. This time they are bringing Acers."
Max swore.
Acers meant that they were in more serious trouble.

Sentry Duty...
"What's going on?" Angst looked about. She walked across the roof to the spot where Suki was camped out.
Suki turned to look at Angst; she held a portable game player in her hands. She was in the middle of kicking alien butt.
"Nothing much," Suki replied.
"You're supposed to be on sentry duty," Angst said with a scorned look.
"I am," Suki stated. She finished off the level and then quit the game. "It's boring. Just sitting and watching, it's like doing math or something like that."
Angst sat down beside Suki and took the binoculars from their perch to do a quick glance.
"Besides, Trump is in the tree across from the building," Suki said.
"I hate that cat," Angst muttered.
"You and Max both," Suki said with a smile. "I can understand why Max doesn't like the cat but what's your story?"
Angst scanned the building and saw no movement. She scanned to the tree to find Trump sitting on a limb licking his right paw. He seemed to notice someone watching him so he peered toward Angst.
"It's a long and complicated one," Angst said.
"I got all night," Suki inquired.
"Well I don't," Angst replied. She turned to Suki and winked.

Discussions on a Train
Frank sat near the back, his head leaning up against the window.
Watching the worlds blur into a mural. He was tired and just wanted to
sleep for a bit to shake the demons of the day. His attention was
drifting off as the sandman nearly paid him a visit, when Angst plopped
down next to him.
"What you thinking of," she asked him.
"Just thinking of what-ifs and what-could-have-beens," he answered her.
"You sorry you got hooked into this war?" she asked.
"No," he honestly replied. "Just thinking how my life would be much different now if my eyes weren't open to the plural worlds."
The car was nearly empty, except for Goner who was sitting with Trump and both of them seemed to be talking about the latest vampire movie that was playing in one reality.
"Any word yet from the missing?" Angst wanted to know.
"You're full of questions today," Frank answered with a chuckle. "No, not yet... but soon, very soon."
"What you thinking of," she asked him.

Orlando?
"Orlando?" Trump asked with a sound of disgust.
"Yeah, Orlando!" Goner replied.
"Why Orlando?" Trump questioned. He was trying to understand the logic in that decision.
"Why not!" Goner stated and to emphasize his point he slapped on some Tony Orlando & Dawn.
"This is going to be a long, long trip," Trump muttered.

The Cat with the Greenback
"You got a C-note you can lend me?" Trump asked.
"What the heck do you need a hundred for?" Goner asked Trump. He couldn't fathom what a cat would want with money in the first place.
"Humour me," Trump stated; he sat there looking at Goner.
A few moments of awkward silence separated the two, then Goner reached inside his wallet and took out a crisp 100 dollar bill and handed it to the cat.
"I want interest back on this," he told the cat.
"Danke," Trump replied and he picked up the bill and hoped off the seat. "Don't worry. I'm good for it."
"Don't spend it all in one place," Goner called after the cat.
"Oh, I intend to," Trump retorted.

Of Element's Gone
The assault force shifted into overdrive; the element of surprise
disappeared when two of their members came through a window covered in
throwing stars. No more subtlety, it was move and make your presence
well known now. Dressed in black and in the cover of darkness they
moved.
"Force Blue now!" someone said into a mike. "Element gone. Full bore time."
Three men came up to a door and kicked it open and began to scan the room. They weren't expecting to find Aqua hiding in plain site. She dropped to the floor and spun around like a top, taking the intruders out at the knees. One of them pulled his trigger and a spray of lead perforated the floor and into the ceiling in a connect the dots of death.
"Damn," Frank said as he stepped into the room and kicked one fellow in the head, pistol whipping another one who was starting to get up. "We have to move now!"
"Right with you, Boss," Aqua said as she flipped herself upright. Her over-sized gauntlets on her hands ready for serious action. "How many?"
"There's about four dozen," Trump said as he hopped down from a shelf. He had come in through the attic portal. "All of them armed and ready for some serious action."
"Thanks for the update," Frank replied. He took a quick glance out the window to see a series of black vans and unmarked trucks about. He checked his pistol and grabbed a few mags off the table and put them in his jacket pocket. He called up the stairs, "Goner. Angst. Let's bamboozle!"

The Cat in the Hat Came Back
"What's with the hat?" Trump asked Max. "Planning on putting the smack down on a couple of hookers?"
Max looked at Trump and said nothing. He and that cat didn't see eye-to-eye on much, but it wasn't a hateful relationship. It was something akin to brothers who don't agree very often.
"Looks good though," Trump added and he went back to licking his paws. Max smiled.
Max had on a fedora; it had been given to him as a gift and he felt like he had to wear it. Suki had seen it at a store and picked it up for him. When she presented it to him she told Max, "You call me Shortround I will kick you."
